The 2026 1/10 oz Krugerrand Gold Coin is one of South Africa’s best-known investment gold coins. Krugerrand coins are produced in cooperation between the South African Mint and Rand Refinery, and their history dates back to 1967, when the first Krugerrand gold coin was introduced.
The coin contains 1/10 troy ounce, or 3.11 grams, of pure gold. Unlike many investment coins with a fineness of 999.9, the Krugerrand is made from 22-carat gold with a fineness of 916.7/1000. The addition of copper makes the coin stronger and more durable and gives it its characteristic slightly reddish-gold colour. The coin has a total weight of approximately 3.393 grams and a diameter of 16.55 mm.
The obverse features a portrait of former South African President Paul Kruger, surrounded by the inscription “SUID-AFRIKA · SOUTH AFRICA”. The reverse depicts a springbok antelope, one of South Africa’s most recognisable national symbols.
The Krugerrand does not have a traditional numerical face value. Its value is based on the amount of pure gold it contains and the prevailing market price of gold. Thanks to its long history and worldwide recognition, the Krugerrand is a popular choice for both investment and collecting.
The smaller 1/10 oz format makes it possible to invest in physical gold with a lower initial amount and is also well suited for first-time gold investors or as a valuable gift.
